Information About Electrical And Electronic (Waste) Devices
The following information is intended for private households using electrical and/or electronic devices. Please pay attention to these important notes in the interest of environmentally responsible disposal of waste devices and your own safety.
1. Information On The Disposal Of Electrical And Electronic (Waste) Devices And The Meaning Of The Symbol According To Annex 3 Of The ElektroG
Owners of waste devices must ensure these are collected separately from unsorted municipal waste. Electrical and electronic waste devices must not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and especially must not be placed in household waste. Instead, these waste devices must be collected separately and disposed of via local collection and return systems.
Owners of waste devices must also remove waste batteries and waste accumulators that are not enclosed by the waste device, as well as Lighting that can be removed from the waste device without destruction, before handing them over at a collection point.
Owners can recognize waste devices that must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of their life cycle by the symbol according to Annex 3 of the ElektroG. The symbol for separate collection of electrical and electronic devices is a crossed-out wheeled bin and is designed as follows:

2. Free Return Of Waste Devices By Distributors
Distributors (any natural or legal person or partnership offering or making electrical or electronic devices available on the market) with a sales area for electrical and electronic devices of at least 400 square meters (for distance selling, instead with storage and shipping areas for electrical and electronic devices of at least 400 square meters) as well as distributors of food with a total sales area of at least 800 square meters who offer and make electrical and electronic devices available on the market several times a year or permanently (for distance selling, instead with total storage and shipping areas of at least 800 square meters), are obliged to end users to take back electrical waste devices free of charge as follows:
a. Return/Pickup When Purchasing A New Device And Delivery To A Private Household
When concluding a purchase contract for a new electrical or electronic device, the distributor is obliged to take back a waste device of the same device type, which essentially fulfills the same functions as the new device, free of charge.
If the place of delivery is a private household, the return is carried out by free pickup. For this purpose, when the new device is delivered, a waste device of the same device type with essentially the same functions can be handed over to the delivering transport company.
If the new device is sold exclusively using distance communication means (§ 312c para. 2 BGB), the following restrictions apply:
- Free pickup of a waste device of the same type and function is only available if it is a device of category 1 (heat exchangers), 2 (screens, monitors, devices with screens with a surface area of more than 100 square centimeters), and/or 4 (large devices with at least one external dimension greater than 50 centimeters).
- If it is instead a waste device of category 3, 5, and/or 6, free pickup does not apply and instead the following letter b) applies for free return.
An overview of the device categories and the devices covered can be found here: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/elektrog_2015/anlage_1.html
b. Return When Purchasing A New Device And Delivery Elsewhere/Return Of Small Devices
When concluding a purchase contract for a new electrical device that is not delivered to a private household, and for the sale of a new device of categories 3, 5, and/or 6 exclusively using distance communication means (§ 312c para. 2 BGB) with delivery to a private household, there is the option to return a waste device of the same device type, which essentially fulfills the same functions as the new device, free of charge to the distributor.
The same option exists, regardless of the purchase of a new electrical or electronic device, for waste devices that do not exceed 25 centimeters in any external dimension. In this case, the end user’s return option to the distributor is limited to 3 waste devices per device type.
For sales exclusively using distance communication means (§ 312c para. 2 BGB), under the above conditions, the return is carried out
- for waste devices of categories 3, 5, and/or 6
- for waste devices that do not exceed 25 centimeters in any external dimension,
by providing suitable return options within a reasonable distance from the respective end user.
Otherwise, the return takes place at the place of delivery or in the immediate vicinity.
Distributors must provide suitable return options for this purpose.
3. Information On The Options For Returning Waste Devices
Codeso Living is NOT obliged to take back waste devices free of charge under the provisions of the ElektroG.
However, we are happy to inform you about possible return points – you can find these, among others, at www.take-e-back.de or www.e-schrott-entsorgen.org.
Owners of waste devices can hand them in as part of the return or collection options provided by public waste management authorities to ensure proper disposal of waste devices. In some cases, it is also possible to hand in electrical and electronic devices for the purpose of reusing the devices. You can obtain more information from the respective collection or return point.
4. Information On Data Protection
Waste devices to be disposed of may contain sensitive personal data (for example, on a PC or smartphone) that must not fall into the hands of third parties.
We expressly point out that end users of waste devices are responsible for deleting personal data on the waste devices to be disposed of.
