The so-called warp velvet was already known in Italy in the 14th century. It was produced in Milan, Florence, Genoa, and Venice. During this period, it was mainly used as covering for cushions, upholstered furniture, and wall coverings. But not only that: robes that were meant to impress and look splendid were also made with velvet. In the Renaissance, velvet was especially popular in Europe and was considered the main fabric type of that time. In Germany and the Netherlands, the velvet industry only gained a foothold in the 18th century. The Lower Rhine was for a long time the European centre for the production of precious fabrics such as silk and velvet.
Velvet is a fabric into which a pile yarn is woven. In ancient times, the fabric was called sammet. The term comes from Greek and means something like ‘six-threaded’. The development of silk weaving is closely linked to that of velvet. Medieval velvet was initially a multicoloured silk fabric with patterns – but without pile.
The base fabric for velvet production is a plain or twill weave. Into this fabric, an additional weft or warp yarn system is woven. Different methods of yarn insertion create different types of velvet. Hence, one also speaks of weft velvet (often called velvet) or warp velvet. During the yarn insertion, loops are formed above the base fabric, which are cut at the end of production. This creates the typical fibre pile of velvet. The term cotton velvet is often used when cotton is used for velvet production.
Velvet has, unlike velour or plush, the shortest pile fibres. Therefore, the fabric feels soft, yet relatively firm and heavy. The pile also gives velvet a certain style, whereby the fabric looks and feels different depending on the direction of the pile. That is why the direction of the pile must be observed during velvet production.

We process and ship orders Monday to Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm (except on public holidays). Please note our different Showroom opening hours.
Shipping costs are incurred per order and delivery address. The shipping method depends on the product type, weight, and/or size. Standard parcels* are shipped with Hermes, DPD, or GLS. Bulky goods** are shipped with Hermes and DPD. Freight deliveries are handled by DSV, Dachser, Rhenus, DHL, Emons, and others.
You will receive a shipping email with a tracking link as soon as your order has left our warehouse. Tracking should generally be possible after approx. 24 hours.
If your order cannot be delivered all at once for technical reasons, we also offer partial delivery. Shipping costs will only be charged once. For environmental reasons, we prefer to ship your entire order at once.
Please note that some items (e.g. side tables) are shipped in multiple parcels (tracking numbers). Although the parcels are handed over to the shipping provider at the same time, in some cases it is possible that they will be delivered on different days.
Unfortunately, delivery to parcel stations is not possible.
For shipping standard parcels within Germany, we charge a flat shipping fee of €5.95 per order.
This covers part of the cost for the safe shipping of your order – from careful packaging and high-quality packing materials to climate-neutral parcel shipping with our shipping partners.
For parcels that are not picked up in time (e.g. at a DHL or DPD branch) and are returned to us, or whose acceptance is refused without damage, we will retain the return shipping costs of €5.95.
Depending on weight, shipping costs to the following European countries are calculated at checkout:
Under certain conditions, items that do not fall under the standard parcel* regulations due to their nature, but are not yet considered freight goods, can be shipped with Hermes as so-called bulky goods**. Please note the special return regulations for bulky goods shipping.
(Large) furniture or particularly heavy, bulky, and fragile items (e.g. floor lamps, mirrors, or Wall Art) are generally delivered by freight. Please provide your phone number, preferably a mobile number, for delivery in the checkout process.

Delivery is made to the so-called curbside, i.e. the delivery is made to the front of the house, but cannot be carried into the apartment. If you are unable to carry the goods into your apartment yourself, please arrange for external assistance in advance.

In Germany, we offer freight delivery with a 2-man team to your desired location at the delivery address for an additional charge, within 5-8 business days from dispatch. Please select this option in your cart and also provide your phone number for delivery in the checkout process.

We calculate shipping costs to the following European countries based on weight at checkout.
So that you can arrange your preferred delivery date with the shipping company, they will contact you by phone. To ensure delivery, please remember to provide a phone number where you can be reached during the day (preferably a mobile number) in the checkout/order process.
Please also note that freight deliveries can take place Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.
If one or more delivery attempts are unsuccessful despite an agreed delivery date with you, we are entitled to charge you the actual costs incurred for rescheduling and redelivery. These currently amount to €104.50 per additional delivery attempt.
If the goods are returned to us or the supplier due to a failed delivery, we are also entitled to pass on the actual transport and return costs to you.
Please also note that freight companies cannot store shipments indefinitely. If the goods can only be accepted more than 7 calendar days after the first contact by the freight company, the freight company may return the shipment to us or the manufacturer. The resulting transport and return costs may be charged to you in this case. Therefore, please ensure that you can accept available goods within a reasonable period after dispatch.
Important: Refusing to accept the goods does not constitute a withdrawal. If you wish to exercise your statutory right of withdrawal, you must expressly declare the withdrawal in written form (e.g. by email) within the statutory period. Regardless of this, unauthorized refusal of acceptance or a failed delivery may result in transport and return costs, which we may claim from you in accordance with legal regulations.
Freight items you wish to return will also always be collected by a freight company and only after prior appointment with you. Please contact a freight company of your choice directly (NOT Codeso Living) to clarify everything else. Freight companies will only collect the goods in proper transport packaging again. Therefore, please make sure to return the goods undamaged / in their original condition in the original packaging. So please only dispose of the boxes once you have checked the goods and wish to keep them.
The immediate return costs for freight items, i.e. items that we have shipped to you by freight due to their nature, are to be borne by you. The costs for this are estimated at around €130-150 within Germany.
